About Us

  The University of Virginia has an institutional commitment to enhancing the postdoctoral experience. Postdoctoral Enhancement Programs reviews policies concerning postdoctoral researchers at the University and recommends changes for improvement. The program functions as a clearinghouse for information and a liaison for postdocs with the appropriate University units. It provides assistance in dealing with postdoctoral issues and administrative procedures, such as compensation, health insurance and other benefits, visa requirements, employment duration, research funding sources, and grievance resolution. The program also offers career and professional development resources and services tailored to postdoc needs.

Services offered through Postdoctoral Enhancement Programs include:

  • Administration of health insurance and related benefits for postdoctoral Fellows (i.e. non-employees)
  • Professional development lunchtime seminar series for postdocs
  • English courses for foreign national postdocs and their families provided by the U.Va. Center for American English Language & Culture
  • One-on-one career and professional development counseling
  • Ombudsman services
  • Administration of postdoctoral database and listserv
  • Administration of the Postdoctoral Enhancement Programs website
  • Development of “Best Practices” for all postdocs at U.Va.

We make every effort to subscribe all postdocs to the postdoc listserv. If, by chance, you do not receive email messages from us, feel free to subscribe here. This listserv is open to postdocs only.
