Add Personnel to a Protocol
- This procedure is to be used for addition of personnel to existing protocols. If other revisions to the protocol are necessary at the same time, the Addition of Personnel form must still be submitted. Note that the other revisions will require committee review and approval.
- Download and complete an Addition of Personnel form for each individual to be added to the protocol.
- Add personnel to the protocol on-line at https://vprgsecure.web.virginia.edu/acuc/. Retrieve your existing protocol, then go to “Option 3”. If you only need to add personnel, click on “Copy to edit animal handlers ONLY.” If any other modifications are also needed, then click on “Copy to edit ANY/ALL parts of protocol”. (If you cannot access the protocol, call the ACUC office at 4-0405 for assistance.)
- Deliver or mail to the ACUC office: One Addition of Personnel form for each new animal handler One copy of the revised protocol
- Make sure that the new person has completed his/her health evaluation at either WorkMed (employees) or Student Health (students). See http://www.virginia.edu/vprgs/iacuc/ochealth.html for further information.
- All individuals listed on animal use protocols must complete the necessary training, which depends partly on which species is being used and what procedures are being performed. All new individuals are required to attend the Orientation Seminar. Information and registration instructions for all training classes are available at http://www.virginia.edu/vprgs/iacuc/../animalwelfare. Use the Training Requirements decision tree to determine which training program components are required and which are optional.
- As soon as the new person has completed the training and occupational health requirements, the ACUC office will administratively approve the protocol.
- The PI will be notified by e-mail to confirm the addition of personnel. The new person may begin to work with animals only after this approval has been received.
- An updated protocol together with the Addition of Personnel form will be maintained in the PI's file in the ACUC office.
