Regenerative Medicine, Morphogenesis, Biomedical Engineering, and Bioengineering Gran
t

With funds from the Commonwealth of Virginia in its 2006-08 budget, the Office of the Vice President for Research and Graduate Studies announces a major grant program for Fall 2006.

We invite each academic unit with research programs in regenerative medicine, morphogenesis, biomedical engineering, bioengineering, and in the molecular and genetic mechanisms that govern developmental processes to submit one proposal for a $500,000 award (funded over two years). One application per school should be submitted by the Dean of the respective school to the Office of the Vice President for Research where the successful application will be selected using a merit-based, peer-review system.  Collaborators on the proposal may be from outside the school, but the lead PI shall be from the school submitting.

The deadline for proposals from the schools was November 1 in 2006.

Proposal packages should include:

  • 5-page, single-spaced 12 point narrative that describes the
    1. Research objective;
    2. The research problem and its significance;
    3. The research plan;
    4. The innovative features of the proposed research;
    5. The capacity of the project team to achieve its objective;
    6. Competing efforts by other investigators;
    7. Impact of proposed research;
    8. Existing funding in area
    9. Likelihood of outside funding and potential sources
  • 2-page budget summary
  • 2-page CVs for PI and Co-PIs
  • Dean’s nomination letter

Ideally, successful proposals for this program will involve multi-investigator and multi-disciplinary teams that draw on existing or emerging research collaborations and enable innovative, high-risk high impact research. If successful, the proposed work should lead to outside funding.

Send proposal packages to Jeffrey Plank, Associate Vice President for Research and Graduate Studies, with a copy to Tamela Davis.
