Subject: Basketball Ticketing Procedures for Students
Dear University of Virginia Student:
We are fast approaching the start of the college basketball season. It is our hope that you will come out to enjoy games in the new John Paul Jones Arena and support the Cavalier teams. This letter is to inform you how to request a student ticket to men’s basketball games during the 2006-07 season.
With a valid student ID, any student can attend regular season University athletics events free of charge. To request and claim men’s basketball tickets throughout the season, all students must use the “Student Hoops Online Ticketing System,” or SHOTS. It is available at uvashots.com.
Each game has a designated, initial two-day ticket request period.
** PLEASE NOTE: The request period for the men’s basketball game vs. Arizona on Sunday, Nov. 12, at 7 p.m. is Sunday, Nov. 5, and Monday, Nov. 6.
After you request a ticket, you will receive an e-mail notification letting you know if your request has been fulfilled. Simply return to uvashots.com to claim and print your ticket. Your printed ticket will include an entry group number, an entry time, and a bar code to be scanned upon entry to the John Paul Jones Arena.
The number of Sabre points you have accumulated determines your entry group number and time. Sabre points are earned by attending men’s basketball games and ’Hoo Crew Orange Passport events. To sign-up for ’Hoo Crew for free and receive a free ’Hoo Crew T-shirt and Orange Passport card, visit hoocrew.com.
On basketball game days, bring your printed ticket and your student ID to the student entrance (the entrance facing Emmet Street on the southeast corner of the John Paul Jones Arena) at the entry time printed on your ticket. You may also enter the arena at any later entry time. Your place within your assigned entry group is protected, eliminating the need to stand in long lines for extended periods of time or to camp out prior to games. Although arriving at the student entrance hours before your entry time is unnecessary, students may begin to align themselves in entry groups no earlier than 8 a.m. on the day of games at the John Paul Jones Arena. All student seating in the arena is general admission.
Upon entry into the arena, your ticket will be scanned and you will proceed up the main staircase. From there, guest relations personnel will direct you to the lower-level student seating on the sideline and baseline (if available). Upper-level student seating is available in sections 301, 302 and 315. To view a John Paul Jones Arena seating map, visit uvashots.com.
All students are encouraged to wear the ’Hoo Crew T-shirt or orange and blue Virginia apparel to games to help create a unified student section in support of the men’s and women’s basketball teams.
To attend women’s basketball games, simply show your U.Va. student ID at the John Paul Jones Arena student entrance.
This is the only e-mail that the entire student body will receive on this subject during the 2006-07 academic year. If you request a ticket through SHOTS, you may choose to receive e-mail notification of men’s basketball ticket request dates.
Thank you for your support of Virginia athletics. We hope to see you at the John Paul Jones Arena this basketball season. Let’s go, ’Hoos.
