Dear Parents of First-Year Students:

As we come to the end of the semester, I want to send holiday greetings and forward the following two reminders. I hope you enjoy having your student home and hearing about his or her first semester at U.Va. Please let us know if we can be of assistance to you, and warm wishes to you and your extended family during this season of joy and renewal.

Sincerely,

Patricia M. Lampkin
Vice President and Chief Student Affairs Officer

Closure of First-Year Residence Halls

Most first-year residence halls (Alderman Road, McCormick Road, and Malone House) closed at noon on Saturday, Dec. 16, and will re-open at noon on Sunday, Jan. 14. The only students who can return prior to Jan. 14 are those enrolled in January Term (who can return to their residence halls on Jan.1) and international students whose permanent address is outside the United States.

Complete details about the closure of first-year residence halls, reduced services over Winter Break, and safety reminders are available online.

Survey Still Open - Please Share Your Thoughts

As part of summer Orientation, many parents wrote messages on postcards to their sons and daughters about their hopes for them this year, especially around health and wellness issues. If you attended the "Health and Wellness" session during summer Orientation or if you created a postcard for your student, the Center for Alcohol and Substance Education would appreciate your feedback on the quality of these programs. Please take a moment to complete a brief online survey. You can complete the survey in fewer than five minutes.

If your son or daughter would like to receive weekly announcements about alcohol-free events on Grounds and in the Charlottesville community, encourage them to join the Hoos-Sober listserve. Students can subscribe by e-mailing hoos-sober@virginia.edu with "subscribe" in the subject line.
