Subject: Move-In Day Reminders

Dear Parents of New Students:

With Move-In Day – August 19 – only a few days away, we wanted to take a moment to provide some last-minute thoughts as you prepare for this important day.

You will find detailed information regarding Move-In Day on the following Web site: https://myuva.virginia.edu/.

A few highlights and reminders:

  • President Casteen will be speaking to parents from 1 to 2 p.m. in Old Cabell Hall. Refreshments will be served. We hope you will take a break to enjoy this official welcome from the President.
  • Copies of the newly updated and expanded U.Va. Handbook for Parents will be distributed at each of the residence halls. Students will receive one copy of the handbook when they check in and get their keys, so please make sure the handbook goes home with you!

Due to its late arrival from the printer, the handbook is not being mailed this year. However, if you will not be coming on Move-In Day and would like a copy, we will be happy to send you one. Please e-mail your request, with your complete name and address, to parentsaspartners@virginia.edu.

  • Check-in for Move-In Day begins at 8 a.m. During the early part of the day, Student Greeters will be on hand to help you unpack your car. ITC staff will be available throughout the day to help with computer questions.
  • Cold treats will be available at OASIS in the Aquatic and Fitness Center from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • You may want to add a bottle or two of hand sanitizer to the supplies that you and your student pack. As we think ahead to the flu season, this is one way to help reduce the spread of germs.

You will find more reminders and details on the Web site referenced above, as well as in the first-year version of Housing Today, the opening newsletter prepared by the Housing Office. It is posted under “printable resources” on the Web site referenced above.

We look forward to the arrival of your sons and daughters on August 19, and we wish you well as you take care of last-minute details.

Safe travels and warm regards,

Patricia M. Lampkin
Vice President and Chief Student Affairs Officer
