Groves Named Associate Vice President and Dean of Students
The University has announced that Allen Groves has been named the new
associate vice president and dean of students. Since August 2007, Groves has
served as interim dean of students. He joined the University in May 2006 as
the development officer for student affairs. Go

Chuck It for Charity 2008: Don't Dump it –- Donate
Through May 13.
Chuck it for Charity, a program sponsored by U.Va. Recycling, U.Va. Housing
and local non-profit organizations, asks students to donate any reusable
items they were planning on throwing away, such as non-perishable food,
clothing, carpets, furniture, appliances and any other reusable items, to
the needy citizens of Charlottesville. For more information, call U.Va.

2008 Sofa Shuffle: U.Va.'s Off-Grounds Furniture Donation Drive
May 10, May 19, May 24, and May 31, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Various Donation
Sites.
Departing U.Va. students can donate their unwanted furniture and household
items in support of Charlottesville-area nonprofit organizations and
residents. Five donation sites have been selected. Please drop off furniture
at 780 Madison Avenue, 516 Brandon Avenue, Jefferson Park Avenue at Maywood
Lane, 14th Street at Camden Plaza, or University Circle at Rugby and Raleigh

The Virginia Glee Club Finals Concert

Start off your summer break with some well-loved classics and help us send
off the fourth-years with a must-see musical celebration. Tickets are $5 for

Studies Occurring this Summer
Bipolar Depression Clinical Trial
The U.Va. Health System, Center for Psychiatric Clinical Research, seeks
volunteers 18 to 65 with bipolar I disorder for a research study. This study
is examining the safety and effectiveness of an investigational drug in
treating bipolar depression compared with a placebo, an inactive substance,
when used in combination with a mood stabilizer. For more information,

Volunteer During the Summer for an OB/GYN Study
If you have infrequent menstrual periods and also suffer from acne or
unwanted facial hair, you may have polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). The OB/GYN
department at U.Va. Health system is looking for volunteers to participate
in a five-month study to investigate the effect of acupuncture on PCOS.
Blood draws and questionnaires are involved. Lab tests and three meals
provided at no cost. Compensation is $170. Principal Investigator: Lisa

Common Cold Research Study Database
U.Va. Clinical Trials seeks volunteers ages 18 to 65 for common cold
research study database. The purpose of the study is to obtain volunteer
contact information for a future cold study. There is no compensation for
inclusion in this data base. When enrolled into a
cold study
you will be paid for study completion. IRB-HSR 13653.

Cavalier Daily Sports Columnist Tryouts
Deadline: May 31.
To become a sports columnist for The Cavalier Daily, submit three 750- to
1,000-word columns via e-mail by May 31. Two columns must be on U.Va.
sports, and the other can be about anything having to do with sports.
