ACADEMIC OPPORTUNITIES
World Literature in English: Fall 2013 Course
Conrad, Joyce, Woolf, Achebe, Plath, Walcott – these and many other incredible writers of the 20th century are featured in ENGL 3830, taught this fall by Victoria Olwell and Victor Luftig. The course is perfect for undergraduates in any department or school who are seeking a literature or humanities course (and it is required for English majors). Photo Submission Contest: The Faces of U.Va. Public Service
Deadline: May 9.
Do you have a great snapshot of you or other University students engaged in public service? Submit it to the Faces of U.Va. Public Service photo contest. Prizes include an honorary spot on the Learning in Action website, a $25 gift card to Para Coffee, and a chance for your photo to appear on the wall of the Programs and Councils Center ("the PAC"). To submit, please visit the website. Multiple winners will be announced on May 10 via email.
The Mikado: Now Interviewing for Opera Viva Fall 2013 Artistic Staff Positions

Opera Viva is looking for an assistant director, a music director, and a vocal director for The Mikado. If you are interested in interviewing for one of these positions, contact kaeldi93@gmail.com. We will conduct these either in person or over Google Hangout, so if you will already be home, do not despair.
SUMMER OPPORTUNITIES
Summer Orientation: ITS Seeking Two Student Temporary Workers for Six Weeks
Application deadline: May 13.
If you will be at U.Va. in June and July, are outgoing, and love the University, consider helping Information Technology Services staff our booth at Summer Orientation. Join ITS staff for four hours per week to talk with parents and incoming students about the tech environment at U.Va. and ITS services. You must be available to attend all Summer Orientation Resource Fair sessions in July. Training will be provided in late June. Hourly wage is commensurate with experience. If you are interested, email your resume by the application deadline to sgerman@virginia.edu.
International Nonprofit Organization: Summer Research Position for Peace Processes in Middle East, South and Southeast Asia
An international nonprofit involved in peace processes in the Middle East and South and Southeast Asia seeks interns to conduct research and draft background materials on peace and dialogue processes in the Middle East and around the world. Interns will work remotely with periodic consultations via phone or in person. Interns should plan to work full time, but qualified candidates who can work 10 hours per week will be considered. The National Student Power Convergence: Social Justice Summer Opportunity

Are you interested in social justice, equality, and student activism? Come learn about the second annual grassroots student power summit this Aug. 1 through 5. More than 500 college students from around the U.S. are coming to learn how to make progressive change on campus and in the community. Students interested in environmental, racial, immigrant, LGBTQ, or economic justice issues are encouraged to apply. content from students, faculty and staff. Each submission should
include a contact name with a telephone number or U.Va. email address.
Also, if available, include a website for more information.
- Events should be posted on the Student Activities
Calendar. Connections limits postings of events.
- Submit your item for Connections online by Mondays at
noon. Connections is distributed to all undergraduates and to graduate
students in the College on most Wednesday evenings when classes are in
session.
- Postings should be brief, generally less than 70
words. Submit your posting in plain text - no italics, boldface or
indentations.
- In the interest of brevity and newsworthiness, repeat
submissions may be denied.
- Connections is edited and published by the Office of
the Vice President for Student Affairs, and this office determines the
suitability of all items for publication.
