SCHOLARSHIPS

Jack Kent Cooke Graduate Arts Scholarship: Funds for Graduate Study in the Arts
Application deadline: Jan. 25, noon.

U.Va. may nominate two fourth-year students or recent graduates for this scholarship. Criteria include artistic merit and financial need. For more information, please visit the website.

 

Udall Scholarship: Apply Now
Application deadline: Feb. 8.

The Udall Foundation will award 80 scholarships of $5000 and 50 honorable mentions of $350 to second- and third-year students committed to careers related to the environment (including policy, engineering, science, education, urban planning and renewal, business, health, justice, economics and other related fields), tribal public policy, or Native American health care. Boren Scholarship: Study Abroad
Application deadline: Jan. 19.

Boren Scholarships provide up to $20,000 to U.S. undergraduate students to study abroad in areas of the world that are critical to U.S. interests and underrepresented in study abroad. Study abroad proposals for two or more semesters are strongly encouraged and must include an intensive language component. The program focuses on geographic areas, languages and fields of study deemed critical to U.S. national security, broadly defined. For more information, please visit the website.

Intramural-Recreational Sports: Now Hiring Swim Instructors
Interviews offered Jan. 11 through 13.

Earn money this spring teaching children how to swim at the AFC. Instructors are needed for Saturday and Sunday youth swim lessons beginning in early February. Job descriptions and applications are available online. For more information, e-mail fitness@virginia.edu.

  1. Connections is for general postings of University content from students, faculty and staff. Each submission should include a contact name with a telephone number or U.Va. e-mail address. Also, if available, include a website for more information.
  2. Events should be posted on the Student Activities Calendar. Connections limits postings of events.
  3. Submit your item for Connections online by Mondays at noon. Connections is distributed to all undergraduates and to graduate students in the College on most Wednesday evenings when classes are in session.
  4. Postings should be brief, generally less than 70 words. Submit your posting in plain text - no italics, boldface or indentations.
  5. In the interest of brevity and newsworthiness, repeat submissions may be denied.
  6. Connections is edited and published by the Office of the Vice President for Student Affairs, and this office determines the suitability of all items for publication.
