Pan-University Research Poster Competition Deadline: March 1 As a way of recognizing the central role of research and scholarship in the University’s mission, activities surrounding President Sullivan’s inauguration in April will include a poster competition, open to all students, to highlight high-impact and innovative growth areas for U.Va. research. A diverse committee will select five “finalists” in each of the seven categories, which include the humanities and arts as well as the sciences. The posters of 35 finalists will be displayed during the inauguration event, and finalists will be honored by President Sullivan. Attention, rising fourth-year international undergraduate students: $1,500 will be awarded to one who demonstrates both academic merit and devotion to humanity through the commitment of time and energy to community-based service projects. Hess-Newman Jargowsky-Stoker Memorial Scholarship Deadline: March 4, 5 p.m. This scholarship was established in memory of Natalie Newman, Karen Jargowsky and Erika Hess -- all members of the class of 2001 – and Megan Stoker of the class of 2000. It honors their many contributions to the University of Virginia and the courage with which each faced untimely deaths due to cancer. The scholarship is awarded on an annual basis to a student whose life has been significantly touched by cancer. This impact may be a result of one's own illness or that of a close family member.
