Athletics

The departments of Athletics and Intramural Recreational Sports are fully committed to providing facilities and programs that service the parking, access, seating and accommodations for those defined as being disabled and the companion(s) that accompany them.

 

The following information relates to the accommodations that are available to those with disabilities that utilize the many Athletic & Recreation facilities and programs at the University of Virginia.

Intramural Recreational Sports

The Intramural Recreational Sports Department offers both indoor and outdoor recreation facilities for the use by students, faculty, and staff. Many of these facilities also double as venues for various Athletic Program competition sites. Indoor Recreation Facilities:

Aquatic & Fitness Center, Memorial Gymnasium, North Grounds Recreation Center, Outdoor Program Center and Slaughter Recreation Center.

 

All facilities are accessible to those with disabilities including parking, restroom/locker rooms and access to equipment and program spaces. Of special note are the unique opportunities that exist at the Aquatic & Fitness Center via lifts and a ramp entrance to pool areas, a specific changing room that accommodates those that may need assistance, a wheelchair accessible track and specific cardio/strength training equipment for those with disabilities. Elevators exist in both the Aquatic & Fitness Center and Memorial Gymnasium to provide access to all levels of the facility. Slaughter Recreation Center and North Grounds Recreation Center are both one level facilities.

 

Memorial Gymnasium is unique in that access is available via either the east side lower level entrance or the main level, west entrance. Both are through intercom systems that communicate directly to facility personnel who in turn open the respective door.

Outdoor Recreation Facilities:

Snyder Tennis Center, The Park, Carr’s Hill Field, Madison Bowl Field. Lambeth Field, Copeley Field, Nameless Fields, the Dell Basketball courts, Perry-Fishburne Tennis Courts

 

All facilities with the exception of the Perry –Fishburne Tennis Courts are accessible for use. Support facilities with accessible restrooms are in immediate proximity to The Park, Snyder Tennis Courts and Carr’s Hill Field. Parking for those with disabilities is available in close proximity to all outdoor facilities.

Athletic Facilities:

 

Scott Stadium

Seating for those with disabilities is located in the South end zone on levels 3 & 5. If you require disabled seating arrangements please contact the ticket office at 434-924-UVA1. Each area will have folding chairs for companions of people with disabilities that do not use wheelchairs. General policy will dictate that there will be one companion to accompany a student with a disability. Additional companions may be accommodated based on seating availability. Each companion seated with a patron with a disability must also hold a ticket for that area. Patrons with disabilities who do not make prior arrangements and cannot physically access their seats should exchange their tickets at the Public Will Call located at the East Gate.

 

Restrooms for men and women are located beneath all permanent stands and can be reached by exiting any portal. Family/Special needs restrooms are located in the following locations: Sections 114, 118, 501, 518, 522 and 539.

 

Parking

Parking for patrons with disabilities is available at the Law School located on North Grounds with proper DMV permit. An accessible shuttle is provided from this lot to the East and West entrances of Scott Stadium. Shuttle service is provided for the disabled patron and one guest.

 

Klockner Stadium and Davenport Field

All patrons, including children of any age, must have a ticket for admission to Klockner Stadium and Davenport Field. Seating for persons with disabilities and their companions is available in the first row of the permanent seating area in both facilities. Folding chairs are available for use. Parking for patrons with disabilities is available in designated spaces in the West lot of University Hall along Alderman Road and directly across from the entrance to Klockner Stadium.

 

Artificial Turf Field

Students and other Wahoo Fans

Seating for persons with disabilities and their companions is available in the first row of the permanent seating area. Folding chairs are available for use. Parking is available in designated spaces in the Cage lot beside University Hall and in proximity to the Artificial Turf Field

 

John Paul Jones Arena

Seating for students with disabilities is available through the Athletic Ticket Office by request by calling 434-924-UVA1. Section 302 is designated specifically for students with disabilities and their companion. Folding chairs are available for the companion or for those that are not wheel chair bound.

 

For guests that are hearing impaired, the arena provides Assistive Listening Devices at no cost. For assistance in obtaining an Assistive Listening Device, please see the Guest Services member closest to your seating section or the guest booth on the concourse across from section 310

 

Parking for guests with disabilities is located on level three of the parking garage adjacent to the arena. Accessible parking spots are on a first come first served basis. Accessible drop-off locations are located along the John Paul Jones Arena side of Massie Road between Emmet St and Copeley Road. Convenient wheelchair access to John Paul Jones Arena is available at the Main entrance (West Gate) Public elevators are located on the concourse adjacent to sections 101, 109, 301, and 309
