General Disability (Handicapped) Parking
Accessible parking spaces are reserved for those possessing valid handicapped placards or license plates (provided by the Department of Motor Vehicles or the University of Virginia). Individuals displaying a valid placard or license plate may use UVA meters free of charge or park on Grounds in spaces marked for "service vehicles" found in many University lots. General use accessible spaces are clearly posted, and are located throughout University Grounds. Designated accessible spaces are posted throughout each UVA parking garage, but the user is expected to pay the normal hourly fee.
Medical Center Parking
Lee Street East and West Parking Decks
Hospital Drive Parking
Limited general and handicap parking is available on Hospital Drive. Access is made off University Avenue (the Corner).
West Complex Parking
Handicap parking spaces are available off Jefferson Park Avenue and on Hospital Drive General parking is asked to utilize the Lee Street Parking Decks.
A permit request for close-in parking in the Health System parking areas due to a medical condition and/or disability requires the issuance of a parking permit for the specific Health System lot. Employees must contact the Health System Parking Office (924-5147) to request the forms required to initiate the approval and issuance of permits based on a medical need. This permit is issued by the Department of Parking and Transportation once the application has been approved. The cost of the permit is $5 less than the current monthly parking fees. A permit is issued to provide parking in a Health System reserved lot in accordance with a physician's recommendation. If an employee has a DMV issued decal for handicapped parking, a permit for a reserved lot in the Health System area is also required
Specific Disability Parking
Persons with permanent or temporary disability who hold a UVA parking permit may submit requests to the Department of Parking & Transportation for special permits entitling them to reserved parking for their exclusive use.
Temporary Disability Permits
Student Health, 924-5362
If you have a temporary mobility impairment and would like to use disability parking, you must go to Student Health and request written disability certification from them. Once you get the appropriate documentation from Student Health, present this information (along with your blue or orange parking permit) to P&T. They will give you a temporary permit for a space that is closest to the majority of your classes, if available. There may be a charge for this pass depending on the area.
