Visitors

The Chapel

The Chapel has a temporary ramp in front which makes it accessible to people using wheelchairs.

The Lawn

A person using a wheelchair cannot travel the whole length of the Lawn. The west side of the upper level of the Lawn (the left side if you are facing the Rotunda from the Lawn) is accessible to people using wheelchairs via ramp which can be accessed from the lower Rotunda walkway(on the Lawn side of the Rotunda). One may access the middle of the Lawn via Patterson Alley which has a ramp. Patterson Alley is the third alley from the Chapel and the Rotunda. The lower level of the Lawn is accessible via the alley behind Garrett Hall and a ramp near Pavilion IX. The Lawn is not wheelchair accessible from the alleys on the east side of the Lawn.

The Rotunda

Leslie Comstock, Rotunda Administrator

924-1019

The Rotunda has an elevator which makes it wheelchair accessible. Restrooms at the base of the Rotunda are accessible to wheelchair users. At night events, ask a Rotunda guard or host for a key to access the restrooms or the elevator.

University Tours and Admissions Information Sessions

University Guides, 924-3239

Office of Admissions, 982-3200

Both the University Tours and Admissions Information Sessions are accessible to wheelchair users and people who are hearing impaired. If you use a wheelchair, notify the Rotunda guards at the desk of the main lobby entrance of the Rotunda when you arrive. The guards will also assist people with mobility impairments in locating and using the elevator to the Dome Room (the location of the Information Sessions). Interpreters for the hearing impaired may be arranged for tours and information sessions by contacting the Admissions Office or the University Guide Service at least 5 working days in advance. Please contact them as soon as you know that you would like a tour so that they have ample time to arrange for an interpreter.

Visitor Parking

The parking garage on Emmet Street provides access to central Grounds via Newcomb Hall. Enter the basement of Newcomb Hall (double white doors visible from the entrance of the new bookstore) and take the elevator to the fourth floor. Exit Newcomb Hall and you will be across McCormick Road from the Lawn. There are additional general handicapped spaces on McCormick Road.

If visiting North Grounds (Graduate Business and Law Schools) use the disability parking spaces in the circle drive in front of the Business and Law schools. There are additional spaces behind each school.

There are many other spaces around Grounds. See the Parking section of this guide for more information or refer to the Access UVA Map.
