Hereford Residential College (Student Residences)
(Map I,
Building 5 [C3])
Affirming the plan of residential colleges within the larger University, this
complex was sited and designed as a self-sufficient community. Its pioneering
deconstructivist design was created by Tod Williams, Billie Tsien and
Associates, and includes dormitory buildings, residences for faculty
and the college principal, the Runk Dining Hall, and greenspaces. The
residential college opened in 1992. Then called New College, in 1994
it was renamed for Frank L. Hereford, alumnus, professor of physics,
and the University's fifth president.
