(Academical Village Map, [D2])

Ornate Corinthean capitals mark Pavilion III, second from the Rotunda on the West Lawn. Each capital was fashioned in Italy from Carrara marble, brought into the United States as "educational materials" to save customs duty. The house was built with two front entrances. One, in the center, led to the classroom. The other led to the faculty residence. Pavilion III was completed in 1821. A parapet once stood atop the roof of this and several other pavilions.
