Ann Lane
Ann J. Lane received a Ph.D.in 1968 from Columbia University in U.S. History. Her initial focus was on the history of the South and on African-American History. Her early career reflects that interest with several publications. With the emergence of the women's movement in the late 1960s and the concurrent growth of women's studies in the academy, she moved to the history of women in America, teaching her first class in women's history in 1970 at Douglass College, Rutgers University. She has published several books on the life and work of Charlotte Perkins Gilman, including a biography. She has also published a book on the feminist historian, Mary Ritter Beard. Her current project is entitled Gender, Power and Sexuality in the Academy: A Cultural History of 'Consensual' Relations.
