Earl Mark serves as Director of Computer Technologies within the School of Architecture, and as Associate Professor of Architecture. Prior to this appointment, he was a lecturer at MIT, a senior teaching fellow at the Harvard Graduate School of Design, and visiting lecturer at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, ETH Zurich. In spring 1988, Professor Mark was on sabbatical leave as the Thomas Jefferson Visiting Fellow at Downing College and as a Visiting Associate of the Martin Center, Department of Architecture at the University of Cambridge. Professor Mark is responsible for directing the development of computer based curriculum and facilities. He teaches, performs research, and has published in the areas of computer aided design, design simulation and design research. He is a Research Associate at the Thomas Jefferson Center for Educational Design and has an active interest in the design of educational facilities. During the Spring 1999 term, he conducted a virtual design studio with Thomas Jefferson visiting Professor William Mitchell and Professor Peter Waldman, of UVA. Professor Mark holds a Ph.D. in Architecture with a Minor in Cognitive Science from Harvard University, a Master of Science in Media Technology from M.I.T. Media Lab, a Master of Architecture from the University of New Mexico, and a BA in Architecture and Mathematics from State University of New York.
