Before coming to the University of Virginia, Guy Martin was Visiting Professor of Government and Chair of the HDI Public Administration Forum at the University of the Western Cape's School of Government (1996-99). From 1976 to1990, he taught at the International Relations Institute of Cameroon, Yaounde; and the Institute of diplomacy & International Studies, Nairobi, Kenya. In 1991-92, he taught at The American University's School of International Service, and from 1993 to1995 at Clark AtlantaUniversity. His current research interests include Franco-African relations, democratization, regionalization, and conflict/conflict resolution in Africa. Among his recent publications are: "Francophone Africa in the Context of Franco-African Relations," in John W. Harbeson & Don Rothchild (eds.), Africa in World of Politics (Westview Press, 2nd edn., 1995): 163-188; and The African nation-state in crisis: Alternative frameworks for regional governance.
