Resolving Issues through Support and Education

Please click here to email Project R.I.S.E.

MISSION

Resolving Issues through Support and Education (R.I.S.E.) has been established jointly by the Office of African-American Affairs, the Dean of Students Office, and The Center for Counseling and Psychological Services. It was created to serve African-American students coping with issues stemming from academic, personal, and social circumstances. Specifically, R.I.S.E.'s mission is to create a system of consistent support and motivation to effectively manage and overcome issues of alienation, especially regarding depression among African-American students in the University of Virginia community.

PURPOSE
The purpose of R.I.S.E. is to offer the UVA African-American community an outlet for emotional expression without the fear of being stigmatized. In addition, it seeks to provide students with a comfortable environment where they are able to culturally relate and find substantial information that offers coping mechanisms and consistent support.

WHY WOULD I USE PROJECT R.I.S.E.
- Assistance with adjustment issues
- Improving healthy decision making
- Talking about dating and relationships
- Getting to know campus resources
- Learning about common mental/emotional health issues facing University African American students
