Principal Investigators, Co-Investigators, and Faculty Participants: Approvals are required for all faculty included in the project.
Department: Department Chair approval is required for commitment of personnel and resources.
SEAS: Approval of the Associate Dean for Research and/or the SEAS Dean is needed for commitment of personnel, resources, and to ensure that the proposal meets School guidelines and requirements.
Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP): OSP is responsible for approving proposals on behalf of the University. Because grants and contracts are awarded to the University, not the Principal Investigator, this approval is required by Sponsors, who want the University to assume managerial and administrative responsibilities associated with the research project. OSP approval can take up to two days, so allow sufficient time for this review. OSP needs to ensure that grants and contracts satisfy the necessary state statutes and University regulations. OSP will also negotiate and execute the final contract and award for your projects, and establish your research account.
If your proposal will include participants from other
schools, they must sign the proposal, as well as their Chair and Dean.
Please allow sufficient time to secure these signatures and allow for problems
which may arise. If you will be participating in a proposal being submitted
by another school, that school must bring their proposal through this office
to obtain SEAS signatures. OSP will not process proposals without these
approvals.
