1. What is the difference between UTS's Full Service and Holiday Service?
UTS has several different types of Service Schedules to accomodate needs during certain times of the year. Full Service indicates that all routes are running their normal schedule. The Commuter, Holiday, and Exam Services feature enhanced or reduced schedules for particular routes.

2. Where can I find information about the new UTS routes?
The University Transit Service began servicing new routes on August 11, 2008. Information about these routes may be found here.

3. If I have specific questions about UTS's times of operation, UTS's routes, or anything else, what should I do / who should I contact?
The fastest and easiest way to track down the answers you seek is to send your questions via e-mail to transportation@virginia.edu . If e-mail isn't really your forte, you can also call UTS at 434-924-7711. To leave comments about UTS's service, please visit our online feedback form.

4. Do parking restrictions change during home Football and Basketball Games?
Home Football Games - Parking is restricted after 1:00 AM on the days of home Football games in many of the parking areas throughout Grounds. Please make note of signs at the entrance to the lots which fall into this restriction and be sure your vehicle is moved out of these areas by the time noted. (More Information)

Home Basketball Games - On the days of weekday home men's basketball games, parking is restricted after 1:00 AM for Orange/Storage permit holders and after 5:45 PM for Blue/Commuter permit holders in the parking lots at University Hall on the University Hall side of the street. On the days of weekend home men's basketball games, parking is restricted for Orange/Storage and Blue Commuter permit holders in the same lots two hours pre-game. The North Massie Parking Lot, the large Orange parking lot located across Massie Road from University Hall, remains available to Blue and Orange permit holders on home weekend games.

5. What is covered under the "Grace Periods" that run at the beginning of the semesters?
During the Monday and Tuesday before the first day of class for the Fall and Spring Semesters, permit restrictions are lifted in certain lots. (Contact the parking office for lot information.) This grace period does not apply to the resident staff spaces. The grace period does not apply to safety violations such as parking in the driveway, parking in a prohibited zone, parking on grass, etc.

6. I've heard enforcement is pretty strict around here. Where are my options when I come back to Grounds after 3:30 PM or after 5:00 PM?
Generally, most permit restrictions are in place weekdays from 7:30 AM until 5:00 PM. There are some lots where the restrictions allow Blue/Commuter permits after 3:30 PM (shown in light blue on the map or after 5:00 PM (mostly in the U.Va Hospital area). There are many lots where the permit restrictions are completely lifted after 5:00 PM. Please watch for the few parking lots and spaces, concentrated mostly along McCormick Road and in the U.Va Hospital area, that have a restriction noting "all times." Keep in mind that the restrictions on the entrance signs to each lot are strictly enforced.

7. Don't you get one free ticket?
The first citation issued on a license plate twelve months after the last ticket on that license plate is a warning citation and the fine is waived. The warning citation is forfeited for violations that carry the highest fine. Unfortunately, some people mistakenly believe that you get a new warning every semester or every January, but you actually must go 12 months from the date of your last citation to earn the new warning citation.

8. When I purchase a permit, are there any other payment options besides check, cash, or Visa/Mastercard/Discover/American Express?
The Department of Parking & Transportation also accepts Cavalier Advantage for payment. Faculty and full-time classified staff are also eligible to have the payment for a permit deducted from their paycheck.

9. How can I get on the waiting list for the closer-in lots?
Within the U.Va Hospital area, parking assignments are made based on job category, schedule, and length of service. Contact your manager to inquire about closer-in parking options for the U.Va Hospital area.
Outside the U.Va Hospital area, waiting lists are maintained on a first come, first serve basis for many of the close-in parking areas. Faculty and Staff are limited to five waiting list choices. Students are limited to a few specific lots. Please contact Parking & Transportation at (434) 924-7231 to check eligibility and be placed on waiting lists.

10. What should I do if my lot is full? What if I am driving a different car or I forgot to display my permit?
Usually by weekday mid-mornings the available Commuter parking at Scott Stadium will fill. Some of the Orange/Storage parking may fill as well. The best option for overflow parking is in the North Massie Parking Lot, the large lot located across Massie Road from University Hall. If the North Massie Lot ever fills, P&T provides officers on site to help direct permit holders to available parking.
If you are driving a different vehicle or forgot to display your permit, please call (434) 924-7231 to receive a prior authorization number (PA#) to park. Don't forget that permits displayed on a hang tag are easily transferred to alternate vehicles.

11. My permit expires in May. How do I get a new one?
The Department of Parking & Transportation mails out renewable forms for parking permits in early April for the upcoming permit year. As long as all bills and outstanding tickets have been paid, Faculty, Staff, and Students may renew their parking permits through the mail. New permits are mailed about one week prior to the beginning of the new permit year.

12. Do I get money back if I don't need my permit anymore?
If you no longer need your permit or if you leave the university, you may be due a refund on the permit you hold. Any refund will be calculated based on the date that the permit is returned to the Department of Parking & Transportation. If you pay for your permit by payroll deduction, to avoid any billing for the remainder of the permit year, you must return the permit.

13. I have to work on a State Holiday or when bad weather closes schools. What bus service runs on these days and do I still have to observe the parking restrictions?
If, due to bad weather, U.Va classes are canceled or a shift modification is announced for the University, the Department of Parking & Transportation may change bus service and lift permit restrictions. Certain State Holidays may also alter transportation and parking services. To verify what bus service is running and to verify parking enforcement schedules, please call the Department of Parking & Transportation at (434) 924-7231. Local radio stations and the U.Va snow emergency lines, (434) 924-SNOW or (434) 423-SNOW, broadcast alterations to transportation and parking services at U.Va during periods of inclement weather.
Please call UTS at (434) 924-7711 for any other questions concerning Bus Operations.

14. How do I pay or appeal a citation?
Please refer to the Citations Main Page, which will provide you with mailing addresses, contact numbers, and a link to make payments or appeal a citation online.
