Want to advance your degree this winter? Does studying abroad during the summer excite you? Or maybe you can’t get enough of the University of Virginia and never want to leave Grounds? (You wouldn’t be the first.) January Term and Summer Session offer immersive learning experiences year-round.

Dive deeper into your field or expand your academic horizons with subjects that speak to your innate curiosity. January Term and Summer Session feature condensed courses that involve greater interaction with professors in small classes. The courses emphasize experiential learning, providing more opportunities for hands-on experiences beyond a lecture hall.

Learning Is Always in Season

January Term

January Term provides students with new courses that address topics of current interest, study abroad programs, undergraduate research seminars and interdisciplinary courses. The intensive format of January Term classes encourages student-faculty interaction and allows students to immerse themselves in a specialized subject.

Summer Session

Each year, more than 6,000 students enroll in Summer Session to explore unconventional subjects and conduct research on Grounds or around the globe. Open to current Hoos, students from other universities, rising high school juniors and seniors, and lifelong learners, Summer Session provides academic experiences not offered during the spring and fall semesters.
