As prospective students and their families plan for college, many will place value and affordability on their lists of criteria. The University of Virginia is consistently ranked among the top universities in the country for value, which means our students receive an excellent education at a comparatively reasonable cost. UVA also removes financial barriers and minimizes student debt so they can make the most of their college experience and position themselves well for the future.
Undergraduate students who are academically successful and demonstrate the potential to contribute to UVA’s vibrant intellectual community are offered admission regardless of their financial situation or ability to pay, because we believe higher education is not an opportunity unless all students can afford it.
UVA meets the demonstrated financial need for all in-state and out-of-state undergraduate students applying by the annual March 1 deadline. This is achieved through a combination of scholarships, grants, work-study and need-based loans.
UVA is committed to limiting need-based loans for undergraduate students with financial need, so they graduate with less debt.
Our commitment to access and affordability is only part of the equation. UVA consistently ranks among the nation's top public colleges in terms of its graduation rate. Combined with the excellent job prospects and high starting salaries of UVA graduates, as well as our vast and diverse alumni network, the value of a UVA degree is difficult to match.
