ANNOUNCEMENT
School of Engineering and Applied Science
Endowed Faculty Fellows
Dear SEAS Colleagues:
The future and vitality of our school is dependent on the successes
of our bright young faculty. Keeping pace with technological change
requires the potent mix of experience, creativity, and ambition
that our associate professors possess in abundance. They are the
future leaders of our school and their disciplines. Having proven
their sustaining value through the tenure process, they are eager
to launch new and exciting educational and research initiatives,
often in collaboration with colleagues in other disciplines. In
many cases, these scholars are leading the creative breakthroughs
that will define the future directions of their disciplines and
their careers. To recognize the exceptional achievements of our
rising young faculty and to encourage them as they move forward,
the School of Engineering and Applied Science has initiated the
Endowed Faculty Fellows program. Faculty Fellows will receive an
annual $2,000 discretionary research stipend, will be entitled to
use the title Faculty Fellow, and will hold their appointment for
a five year term or until they are promoted to full professor, whichever
comes first.
This year I am pleased to announce that, in addition to fellows
funded from existing endowments, the Virginia Engineering Foundation
has funded an additional four new Faculty Fellow positions. All
together I am pleased to announce the following Faculty Fellow appointments.
Please join me in congratulating these new Faculty Fellows:
- Scott Acton, Munster Research Professor, and Faculty Fellow
in Electrical and Computer Engineering
- Andrew Hillier, Memminger Faculty Fellow in Chemical Engineering

Best wishes for the holidays.
