I. The InterGreek Committee at the University of Virginia presents…

The 2007 Greek Awards & "State of the Greek Community" Annual Address

On April 24th, the InterGreek Committee handed out 32 different awards to fraternities, sororities, Greek individuals, and faculty who have contributed exceptionally to the Greek Community in the past year. See the Cav Daily article from the event, courtesy of Max Hall.

II. Looking for a Leadership class for next semester?

Try EDLF400: Leadership in Organizations

Mondays, 10-11:50 am

Open to 3rd & 4th year students only

Leadership is Student Organizations is designed to provide a general introduction to leadership theory, group dynamics, and organizational change; enhance the development of leadership skills; draw on students’ simultaneous involvement in leadership positions for application and analysis; and examine the origins and purposes of student self-governance at the University of Virginia.

Learning Objectives:

Students will:

  1. Students will develop a personal philosophy of leadership through exploration of various styles and approaches in the context of the evolution of leadership theories, diversity in leadership, ethics in leadership, and reflection on behaviors and values.
  2. Students will recognize the importance of civic engagement through exploration of the origins of student self-governance and U.Va.’s Student Affairs division core values, identifying and acting in congruence with personal values, recognizing and understanding the role of power and influence and the value of social justice and social responsibility.
  3. Students will develop skills in organizational leadership through exploration of developing organizational mission, vision, and core values; group development and dynamics; facilitation of groups and member roles; and problem solving and crisis management.

IV. U.Va.'s Off-Grounds Sofa Shuffle

May 19, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., MSC Clubhouse.

Drop off any unwanted but usable furniture and household goods at the MSC Clubhouse on Madison Avenue during the first-ever Sofa Shuffle on May 19. Furniture donated through the event will be used by others in the community. Contact us or go online to find out more or to volunteer to help at the event.

V. Moving? Have extra stuff?: Donate it to CHU.Va.!

May 14-15, free pick-up.

Cooperative Housing at U.Va. (CHUVA) will come by and pick up any usable furniture (except couches) and household goods for free. Just give us a call at 220-3338 or e-mail to arrange pickup for May 14 and May 15.

VI. UPC Greeters: Help First-Years Move in on Aug. 25.

Help first-years move into their dorms, move in early on Grounds, and receive a sweet shirt. Be a UPC Greeter. Be the first face incoming students and their parents see when they move in on Aug. 25.

VIII. Rotary Scholarships, application due June 1st

Deadline: Prior to June 1.

Rotary District 7610 will sponsor three scholarships this year: 1) one academic year scholarship for $23,000; 2) one three-month cultural scholarship for $12,000; and 3) one three- to five-month University Teacher Grant for $12,500. These scholarships will begin no earlier than July 1, 2008.

The process includes submitting an application by June 1, 2007, in order to be interviewed by the local club. District-level interviews will take place Sept. 8-9. Final decisions will be made in December.

X. Presidents' Corner

A. Renewing your FOA contract for the 07-08 Academic Year

All presidents should be sure to sign the FOA contract in OFSL prior to leaving Grounds for the Summer to ensure that your chapter will be included in Summer Orientation materials for the 07-08 academic year.

B. Grade Reports for Spring 2007 - do we have your most accurate chapter roster?

Spring 2007 GPA reports will be processed at the end of June based on the most recent roster we have on file, then will be sent to all National Chapter Headquarters Offices (where applicable). OFSL will retain one copy per chapter to be picked up in the Fall semester (or over the Summer if you are in town) by either the chapter president or academic coordinator. Please stop by the office upon your return to Grounds.
