From the President of the Alumni Association Board of Managers
Dear President Casteen,
I was appalled and saddened to learn of the horrible incident involving Daisy Lundy. I’m sure that my
outrage is shared by all of our alumni, along with staff and students of the University. It is a small comfort
to know that Ms. Lundy’s physical injuries were minor and I wish her a speedy recovery. I fear that the
injuries to the University community and to our efforts to build a stronger and more inclusive climate here
will be much slower to heal.
I have read the statements issued by you and Vice President for Student Affairs Pat Lampkin, and I applaud
the sentiment and timeliness of your responses to this intolerable incident. I also support the statement
made by Walter N. Ridley Scholarship Fund Chairman Dwayne Allen and am pleased that the fund has
pledged an additional $1,000 to augment the University’s reward for information leading to the
perpetrator’s arrest and conviction.
I know that there is much work to be done and a hard road lies ahead. Please know that you have both my
full support and that of the Alumni Association.
Sincerely,
H. Eugene Lockhart
President, Alumni Association Board of Managers
