From the Chairs and Center Directors in Arts and Sciences
"We the Chairs and Center Directors of Arts and Sciences wish to express our strong support and sincere sympathy for Daisy Lundy, whose candidacy for the Presidency of the Student Council has made her the victim of a despicable and cowardly assault. We also want to voice our outrage at this disturbing, violent, sexist, and racist act. The assault utterly violates our sense of decency, and is an affront to the dignity of each and every member of our community. There is no place in our midst for such acts or for their perpetrators. This event constitutes a crisis in racial relations at the University. We cannot permit such brutal behavior, nor the attitudes that prompt it, to fester. Hence we must face squarely the historical and institutional legacies that have made this act possible, and must move quickly and decisively beyond them if we are to create the diverse, tolerant and civilized environment to which we aspire."
