A recent partnership between the Office of Sponsored Program and the office of University Development yielded a renewed understanding of the sometimes difficult distinction between gifts and grants. The result of this partnership was a newly-crafted policy statement on the subject.
Ways to Give - U.Va. Development Office
The Office of Sponsored Programs is authorized by the University to accept grant and contract agreements on behalf of the University. Faculty intending on entering into research relationships with outside sponsors should contact the Office of Sponsored Programs or their school research administration departments for guidance. OSP is staffed with professionals whose specific mission is to assist investigators in negotiation of research related contracts. No research related contractual documents should ever be signed or executed by faculty. Only a sponsored program official is authorized to sign and accept sponsored program related official documents.
